TODAY IN THE CLOSET;

Once upon a time a working girl would have to scrimp, save and even forgo soy chai lattes (have mercy) for that one designer piece that she adored. Well no more of that! Never in fashion history have so many designers signed on to ‘mass produce’ a line for budget conscious fashionistas. The names are mind blowing like Zac Posen, Cynthia Vincent, Tucker, Eugina Kim, Isabel Toledo, Vera Wang, Christian Siriano, Lela Rose, Temple St. Clair, Karl Lagerfeld, Abeate, Stella McCartney, Rodart, Mango, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel, and Dolce Vita, just to name a few. And coming soon, Lanvin (that’s HUGE) for H & M and as well as Justin Timberlake’s collaboration with William Rast for Target and Valentino for Gap (holly molly!)

A European buyer noticed the designs of Temple St. Clair Carr in 1986 in Florence Italy and brought them to Barneys New York. Ever since her designs, which retail for $1,000 plus, are coveted by women everywhere. Known for her signature rock crystal amulets, collectible cocktail rings and colored gemstones, her collection for Target is totally her high style at an affordable price, all the pieces are under $50.00! "Each object that I create carries the soul of the history of the artisans of Florence."

Designer Lauren Moffatt
was a thrift store junkie and in her early days as a designer sewed each piece in her collection while living and working on a 31 ft house boat on the Hudson River. Although her collections have grown over the past 10 years her flare for vintage shows up in all of her designs like her Little Miss Moffat line for Target.

Launching today, September 10th, for a limited edition through Oct 17, 2010 designer Gaby Basora will create the limited-edition collection Tucker for Targets GO International, an innovative program designed to provide affordable fashion created by world famous designers at a thrifty fashion girl's price point. Back in 2005 the word ‘Tucker’ came to Gaby Basora in a dream. At the time she was working on a line of blouses for herself . When she discovered that Tucker meant “A piece of cloth draped about the neck and shoulders” she had the perfect name for her line. A year later those blouses were flying off the shelves of Barneys and being worn by the likes of Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Liv Tyler.
“My spirited spin on a print is that it is perfectly classic, refined and utterly lady-like, yet unexpected”
